Er ... why?
I apologize for the shortness of this review - I'm still not feeling well, and am having serious issues concentrating on anything.

TITLE: Pirates of the Caribbean The Magick of the Stone (direct copy-and-paste)
AUTHOR: Beth

NAME(S): Fauve
AFFILIATION: unknown
HAIR COLOR: "Her long tresses were the colour of rubies when they lay in shadow" ... why couldn't she just say dark red?
EYE COLOR: blue-green
SPECIAL POSESSIONS: none

HISTORY: Uknown

CONNECTIONS TO CHARACTERS: She walks into Will's smithery at the same time as Jack (for an unexplained reason). Jack asks Will and Elizabeth to go on an adventure with him, and Will agrees, but only if Fauve comes with them (for an unexplained reason).

NOTES: Most Sue fics I've seen had at least some attempt at explaining why their character is present - this one does not. She's just ... there.

SAMPLE OF THE STORY:

The Sue appears, and clouds herself in contradictions.

Captain Jack Sparrow walked through Port Royal once more. His appearance had not changed much. The only difference was that his hair was longer and that he had bathed recently. However, he had quickly reapplied the kohl that lay beneath his eyes and now glanced around, watching out for officials.

Where did he bathe? Do they have showers on pirate ships now? You'd think with his tendancy to jump into the ocean, he should be pretty high on the sanitation scale, as far as pirates go. Maybe the author has a phobia of unclean people.

He did see several who looked over and he wasn't sure but he could have sworn he saw a smile on their faces.

Because after Jack sent him that lovely fruit basket for Christmas, Commodore Norrington decided he liked Jack, and took him off the most wanted list.

He spotted a lovely young woman with long hair that reached to past her hips. Her long tresses were the colour of rubies when they lay in shadow while her eyes were a contrasting and startling blue green. As she scanned the crowd and her eyes met his, he felt as if they pierced right through him. She was slender and needed no help from the tight dress she wore to accentuate her ample chest.

So she's slender, and she has a big chest ... without the aide of a corset?

The dress was beautiful, a rich mahogany on the top that worked its way into purple at the bottom.

Ahh, the English. So found of gradient dying, they were.

Her skin was almost white, paler than most women, and the dress did nothing to hide this fact.

The only way I can see that a dress would not hide an 18th century lady's skin would be if the dress wasn't there at all.

This story has three reviews - one of them is from an Anonymous persion who left their name as Fauve. Their review says "Mary-Sue would be a more fitting name!" I couldn't agree more. ;)

Bwahahaha! :D To heck with that whole British Empire/We Hang Pirates bull!

Besides Norrington I bet everyone in Port Royal was thrilled to see a pirate walking around town. Since, you know, the last time pirates visited they had that nice picnic.

MarySue, did you even watch the movie?!

((hugs ya)) Hope you feel better soon! Relax, the MS will wait...

Where did he bathe?

"Went to Tortuga and got a special spongebath from Scarlet." *wraggles eyebrows* "Y'remember her right? Very red hair, slapped me because I was a terrible, lying bastard...y'know... a pirate?"

Do they have showers on pirate ships now?

"Only when it rains, luv."

You'd think with his tendancy to jump into the ocean, he should be pretty high on the sanitation scale, as far as pirates go. Maybe the author has a phobia of unclean people.

"Salt water's good for the skin, y'know.." *cheeky smirk*

Yeesh...shoo. Shoo I say!

I love reading your personal commentary- you've obviously MSTed a few stories in your day. There is nothing quite so witty as stating the obvious.

fauve is french for beast, in the wild animal, lives in the forest sense of the word. fauvism is a school of art known for the wildness, and i think sensuality?, of its paintings

Yea. What's with that? I'm a fairly husky young gal, but thin compared to most... but even I have to wear a bone-cru.. I mean corset when I wear my dress... o.o; ...

...corsets are the most comfortable thing ever, by the way.

Have you seen her response to the Mary-Sue accusing reviewer? It cracked me up even more: "Fauve" - Did you not read the beginning where I said THIS IS NOT AN SI which, if you don't know, is short for SELF-INSERT or SELF-INSERTION, which is also another way of saying MARY SUE? I stated in both the summary and the introduction that this was not a Mary Sue. I absolutely hate most Mary Sue's. I name my characters (for the most part) by what the name means. Fauve is going to be wild and uninhibited. I am going to give her faults. She is not going to be all powerful. Besides, there is a secret that will be revealed soon. So don't even start on the Mary Sue stuff.

*snicker*

ah, and then she contridicted herself by saying:

My friend posed a challenge to me. Do an SI and make it good. See, she and I believe only a few rare people can create a truly good SI. I accepted it, but this is not the story. I'm working on that story as you read this, most likely. This story features Jack, Will, Elizabeth, and a girl named Fauve. Fauve is a made up character who I decided to toss in there.

that's at the top of the first chapter. So it IS a "self-insertion" fic, just as ye said and she said it wasn't XD
